Kirkham Town Council believe that free car parking in the town is essential to the economic health of the Main Street and local businesses. Historically the Council has had to fight very hard to stop Fylde Borough Council charging for these facilities. When it was mooted again in 2016 to charge for car parking Kirkham Town Council applied again to have the facilities transferred from Fylde to Kirkham's ownership. Ownership was transferred to Kirkham Town Council in August 2017 and the car parks remain free of charge.
